Intel - this is serious!

The bottom line message was this: PC sector hasn't deteriorated further, and there would not have even been a warning if this was only a PC story. The unexpected weakness that prompted the warning was due entirely to previous weakness spreading to other sectors (communications, servers, networking) and to other geographies (Asia and Europe).

Intel will not give any guidance yet for Q2, noting that this would not be prudent following three straight warnings. Also notes that while US is the weakest geography, it is now seeing order cancellations in all regions, including Europe.

Company says that inventories of flash memory and networking chips are higher than normal. Flash memory is clearly one of the areas that has taken a decided turn for the worse since Intel's prior guidance; other companies in the flash memory space include: AMD, ATML, SSTI, and STM.
