Gordon: On a few issues I'm sure you're correct. On the other hand, take a look at coal mining deaths before and after the government made the mine owners make the mines safer. Look at the Great Lakes before we decided to get serious about industrial pollution spewing into Lake Michigan. How many lives have air bags saved? I'd rather have an OSHA, Food and Drug Administration, etc., that needed to reined in a bit from time to time than an agency with little clout. One of the reasons for the rise of strong federal bureaucracies is that Big Business played too loose and easy with workers' lives and safety for too long.
