Thread. OK, this process is extremely painful. There are SO MANY makes and so many modes of each make. Olympus, Nikon, Canon - have tons of models.

How important is it to have a USB connection? I looked at the Top 5 from CNET & dppreview. Are these guys reputable?

Would you all recommend I stay away from anything less than 3 mega pixels? There are some great zoom cameras (like the Olympus 2100 Ultra Zoom) that have less (the 2100 UZ has 2.1). Will it make a huge difference? I like that one in particular - I do a lot of hiking and that zoom would be awesome. But how good would my pix be?

Please respond today if possible. I'd really love to make this purchase over the weekend.
