"Agreement was reached to give official backing to the high data rate mobile data (HDR) communications system, officially known as "1xEV-DO," at a Working Party 8F gathering of the International Telecommunications Union-Radiocommunications Sector (ITU-R) in late February and early March.

The HDR wireless communications system was developed by U.S.-based Qualcomm Inc. At the ITU-R meeting, the participants agreed to try to finalize standardization of the system specifications before November 2001.

The specs completion for HDR are now scheduled by some time in the latter half of 2001. The work will be carried out by 3GPP2, an industry group that sets standards for the IMT-2000 third-generation wireless systems such as 1x and HDR, which are extensions of current cdmaOne technology."

This is very good news.. They have official backing now for 1xevdo - and will receive final standardization at the annual November meeting - where imt2000 certifications are formally announced... If you miss one November - I understand you wait for the next..

I noted earlier (during my last 3GPP2 meeting review) that it appeared that 3GPP2 might be trying to submit both 1xevdo and 1xevdv for imt2000 certification concurrently. This article perhaps confuses matters - while allowing hope that this is the case...

"The specs completion for HDR are now scheduled by some time in the latter half of 2001." This would be 1xevdv specs - 1xevdo specifications are "complete" - with revisions pending as is always the case.. Why include this information on 1xevdv development unless relevant to announcement at hand? Are all variants of "HDR" (the 1xev family) being addressed as a family? When must 1xevdv specs be completed to be included in the November certification?

To have 1xevdv certified this year would be great news....
