Shocking. This is the first I have seen of reference to this.

Great POINT!

Wart, thread

Here are the numbers from 10/26/99 to today.

Dow: +3.32%

Removed:

S: +50.81%

CHV: +5.61%

GT: -33.82%

UK: merged with Dow: Dow chemical is down 7.3% in the same time frame. I will not include this in the figure as the merger did not take affect until much later.

NET: +22.6%

Installed

MSFT: -59.25%

INTC: -6.91%

HD: -5.53%

SBC: -1.23%

NET: -72.92%

I do not know of a way to calculate the move due to the weighting differences of the stocks. However, the above results point toward a definite advantage to holding the prior group as opposed to installing the "new economy" stocks.

Thanks again for the thought share.
