I would pay because other web sites would follow. They have to, because trying to gain market share by not charging would spell doom for them in this environment.
We now know that an ad-based model does not work too well on the internet.



Yup..this is the point. This would also apply to e-commerce pricing. Not totally related but somewhat to have a profitable model.
