LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 2001

Internap to increase options for customers through resale of Akamai's EdgeSuite(SM) service

INTERNET WORLD - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM), the leading Content Delivery Service Provider (CDSP), and Internap Network Services Corporation (Nasdaq: INAP), the leading intelligent routing services provider, today announced an expansion to the companies' existing relationship through which Internap will offer Akamai's EdgeSuite(SM) service as a value-added offering for its customers. Akamai's EdgeSuite service leverages Akamai's global, fault-tolerant network and incorporates whole site delivery, local and global load balancing and content routing in one integrated offering.

As businesses look for more cost-effective methods of managing Web infrastructure, the combination of Internap's intelligent routing through the Internet's core and Akamai's integrated suite of managed edge services creates an optimal solution for customers looking to maximize performance while leveraging infrastructure investments. "The Internap--Akamai relationship has already proven valuable for mutual customers that have demanding Web site delivery requirements," said Alan Norman, vice president of corporate development for Internap Network Services. "We're pleased to offer the benefits of Akamai's EdgeSuite service as part of our on-going efforts to provide the best possible performance and reliability to our customers."

"Internap's intelligent core services plus Akamai's managed edge services equal a winning combination for our customers," said Chris Turner, vice president, channel distribution, Akamai. "Internap helps Akamai traffic transit the Internet's core in the fastest, most reliable manner, while Akamai efficiently delivers content to the end-user from the Internet's edge."

Internap's Overlay Network monitors the traffic situation over all the major Internet backbones and routes mission-critical data in a faster, more reliable and more managed fashion than conventional Internet technology.

Akamai's EdgeSuite offering is an integrated suite of services that allows Web sites to reap the performance, scalability, and reliability benefits of content delivery across an entire Web site - including static and dynamic content, embedded objects, streaming media, and HTML. The EdgeSuite service enables the generation and delivery of all forms of content from optimal locations for each end user. Internap customers will be able to realize the benefits of massive scalability and 100% Web site availability via Akamai's globally distributed network, while cost-effectively off-loading vital Web infrastructure.

As part of their strategic alliance announcement in December, Internap became a reseller of Akamai's FreeFlow(SM), FreeFlow(SM) Streaming, FirstPoint(SM), and EdgeScape(SM) services, which offer businesses the benefits of rapid, reliable content delivery, high-quality streaming media delivery, geo-location functionality, advanced global traffic management, Web usage reporting, and other performance benefits. Akamai, already an important Internap customer, significantly increased its connectivity commitment to Internap and is strategically collocating content delivery servers at Internap Service Points. The agreements were designed to result in faster and more reliable content delivery for Internap and Akamai customers' Web sites, and more efficient market access to the technologies offered by Internap and Akamai.
