I was with the author most of the way but he/she lost me at the conclusion. In my opinion, what consumers hate about haggling is not knowing what the "real price" is. Admittedly, the "real price" is always a range when it's negotiable, but if you see what other people are paying then you have a feel for the range.

Priceline sucks because it's not transparant - you put in a bid, without knowing what anyone else has paid on Priceline for the same item - and it tells you whether the bid was accepted or not, finito, end of story, no more info than that.

Some stock prices fluctuate wildly in a fast moving, volatile market, but that's not the norm. And so what? The alternative would be for the price to be kept at something artificial, which is not good for the consumer.
