That's just not true. Large companies sometimes forget how to hire and retain the top 10%. Cisco has forgotten how to do that. These cuts are a way for them to get back to a culture of weeding out the bottom 10% continually to stay lean and mean. So if done the right way, cuts can be extremely healthy. I hope they are approaching cuts this way, because to layoff the good with the bad would be disastrous, because then you've destroyed morale, lowered your expected productivity, and lost good people who likely won't come back when the economy turns back around.

No, I think Cisco is too smart to layoff indescriminately. They'll do it judiciously and the shareholders will be better off for it.
