Eric, <<<Obviously, in the context of one paragraph posts to SI, opinions will be reductionist and frequently involve over-generalizations.>>>

Reductionist is overly kind when characterizing posts to SI on this subject. It implies that individuals have sought sufficient background in these subject matters and have spent some minimal amount of time trying to analyze these incredibly complex topics and reducing it into simple enough components that they can comment intelligently enough to differentiate themselves from the stupidest examples of human thought.

Eric, <<<The notion of a black or white race is indeed flawed,>>>

The notion of race is in itself a reductionist attempt to understand different sets of superficial attributes.

For example, you can say that the average Northern European is taller than the average Northern East Asian and come up with some quantitative metric. But what does that say about the millions of Northern East Asians that are taller than millions of Northern Europeans.

Even when you talk about something as obvious as skin color, you run into the anamolies of as many East Asian Indians that are as dark as all the people characterized as of the black races. The confusion goes on when you bring in the Arab and Hispanic populations.

DNA characteristics are not mutually exclusive and have no place in race theory if there was such theory.

Eric,

Excellent post.

I believe that most of the african-american blacks are from folks who were enslaved from the what is close to mid-west africa - around todays nigeria.

Perhaps due to diet, climate etc they evolved into having better athletic capabilties than other humans.

If they had enslaved pygmy's it is unlikely we would see their decendants dominating american basketball or football or cricket etc.

Clearly humans are still evolving and developing and it is to be expected that there would be large variances.

Unfortunately as hate groups have tended to utilze differences in color, race, religion etc it has become impolitic to even discourse on the differences between people.

regards,

Kash
