you run a relational dbase on a pc? (i am no techie- this is a serious question.)

I sure do. In fact, I wrote the database on top of an engine called Omnis back in the later 1980s. It took me, who is not a techie either, thousands of hours to write this. It is customized for my business and it could use an update with a variety of features now available on PCs. I just am no longer young enough to stay up to the wee hours to re-write the program. Omnis also has far more current and better engines although I do not know if they are even still in business. The engine Omnis which the last version I saw was 7, was published by a British firm called Blythe Software.

The database we use handles the charges for our customers on which we carry the paper, the layaways of our customers, the inventory in layaway, history of purchases by my customers and merchandise still in stock. The data file is about 350 MB. PC speed does not matter when looking for specific records since they are all indexed. However, there are times we need to do a string search and speed is very important. Also, when we send bills and statements, etc.
