The one factor that flies in the face of this doomsday scenario is the Fed. Most of these economic figures that we are getting now are lagging indicators, and I expect the Fed to cut by at least 50 basis points... and because the bottom has dropped out of certain sectors of the economy (and the mkt for that matter), it wouldn't surprise me if AG jolted the mkts with a 75 BP cut. I suspect that AG knows that this rate cut must bottom the markets... otherwise, the markets will panic, believing the Fed is unable to reverse this plunge. Thus, this cut must be robust... AG can't take the risk that the mkts will perceive an impotent Fed.

Let me pose this question... why would the Fed willingly allow a paradigm shift such that the markets believed that they could fight the Fed ?
