Short term trends (two months or so) give a good reflection of current thinking.

The following stocks since the first of the year reveal the following pattern.(AMAT, NVLS, LRCX, MXIM KLAC)

Without even knowing a great deal about the superiority of one company's products over the other, or who has the best balance sheet, or who is eating whose lunch, its obvious to me that since the first of this year investors have more confidence in NVLS, KLAC and LRCX than they do on AMAT.

For those of us that are shorter term oriented this is important because trends continue until they are reversed. This is not to say that two years from now that AMAT will not be at the top of the chart. So don't come back with a five or ten year chart of AMAT, I trade in the future and current trends are what option traders and short term trades focus on.
