Our rationale was that since most investors looked back at the Crash of 1987 as the ultimate buying opportunity, a crash on the Nasdaq would be viewed as a gold rush. Therefore, just to be contrary and dole out punishment to investors, the NDX had to grind all the way down, so that all the buy-the-dippers would lose their money $1,000 at a time, until they are all dead. I am sorry I was right, but this is the way the market works. If we always fight the last battle, we will never win the one at hand.

Very well put.

Jill,Re:" you bought on Thursday ". Interesting post by Teresa Lo.
Idon't know her.
However in your link she says:

Message 15449600
"the target for the NDX is 1,757. For all intents and
purposes, we are nearly there.
"

That's 300 points lower than now Jill.
There can be significant price depreciation during a 300 point fall.

Are you calling this the bottom?

I can increase my JDSU shares by 25%, although
since I am already overweight in JDSU and prices
in all else is going to the toilet
I've been debating whether to buy something else.
I got a giant list of things I'd like to own,

One thing holding me back from spreading outside
JDSU is that then I'd have to follow too many stocks.
If the bottom falls off the market then a lot of
the smaller issues I am looking at in the $8 - $15 range
may go to 5 dollars and it would be difficult to get out.

Investing only in JDSU gives you greater flexibility
to move in and out any time.It is so liquid.

Of course, if you bought on Thursday with a
long term Buy & Hold outlook then I can't
argue with you: I think you'll do very well

Jill, correction, you posted NDX and I was inadvertently referring
to COMPX ( which is what I usually follow ),
closing at 2052. Bottom for COMPX is anywhere from 1800 to
1950. I guess you can say we are close.
Of course we assume that

-there will be no more bad news
-CPI/PPI next Fri will be good ( no inflation )
-no more bad news out, such as...?MSFT preannouncing
- no panic situation,
-Fri options expiration
-Dueling Banjos in Congress will agree to a timely
taxcut and budget cuts...

That's quite a few " good " assumptions to all fall in place.......that's what's concerning me right now....
