Lady E: Your article highlights a key if not the KEY Battleground for semis in the near future, and that is why the defection of John Daane (for some $64 million in stock options) to Altera is so forebodding. The battle to take place will be FPGA functionality wherein reprogramming can occur directly over the Internet. Obviously, this is a huge field wherein updated "model" of the latest chip can occur over the Internet with little additional cost to the consumer. And ALtera and XLNX have considered using "Alter (or Xilinix) inside as the sort of slogan that would appeal to consumers who are considering adding the latest functionality to their refrigerators, home security systems, TVs, etc. Warmest regards JH
