tc

you may be right about vbscript being disabled on my machine. i'm trying to find out why i don't get that liveupdate.

wonder if it's because i made the tweaks referred to here... #reply-15372949

several ms docs referenced the file wscript.exe as the program that runs the scripting host on w2k. i have that on my system.

it may be a browser setting. i have disable script debugging checked in ie5.5. i saw mention of script debugging in the ms docs i just scanned.

hmmmmm. maybe the symantec site will have more info.

thank you for your input.

:)

regarding windows scripting host and symantec....

i'm still working on why some norton av users got the update and others did not. tc hypothesized that perhaps those who did not receive the wsh update did not get it because they already had the script host disabled.

i found a couple helpful symantec knowledgebase articles on the subject....

How to uninstall the Windows Scripting Host

service1.symantec.com

How to disable or remove the Windows Scripting Host

service1.symantec.com

the second link gets right down to it with this....

********************************

"How to disable (or re-enable) the WSH:

1. Download Noscript.exe (hyperlink) to a folder on the hard disk.
2. Double-click the Noscript.exe icon. The Norton Script Disabler/Enabler appears

>>If the WSH is currently enabled on the system, you will be prompted whether you want to disable it. To do so, click Disable, and then click OK.

>>If the WSH is currently disabled on the system, you will be prompted whether you want to enable it. To do so, click Enable, and then click OK."

*********************************

i downloaded Noscript.exe as recommended and ran it and the resulting message said:

"scripting is currently enabled. would you like to disable?"

so what have i learned here today? <g3> uhh....

that there must be some other reason that i did not receive the liveupdate wsh update.
