Fine line to draw there. The point is using violence to gain an end. You stated the military trains bullies and if you agree that bully = aggressive soldiers trained to kill, I agree. It might be a better argument to state the military is a bully, but then it doesn't get to pick it's opponents and sometimes must seek to threaten, frighten or tyrannize the strong and not just the weak. Bullies are often thought of as cowards in the long run as they pick on the small or weak, not the strong. This is my distinction between a bully and a soldier. Is Microsoft a bully? Does the government "bully" the people? Are right wing christians bullies? Are left wing environmentalists bullies? Sports and the military give an outlet for aggression in the physical sense. Other endeavors nurture the more subtle and insidious forms. Some of the more overt bullies on the campus at my wife's school are some members of the girls basketball team. They tell my wife and other teachers off at the drop of a hat and terrorize other girls. The administration thinks it's cool to have a State Championship Girl's Basketball Team.
