Re Effect of Reg FD: Based on my own Nasdaq Business Sentiment Index derived from daily scans of the financial media, I believe it has altered the behavior of the Markets. Time will tell if this is true over the longer term, but I've seen evidence that the week to week updates on the status of IT spending are serving as leading indicator of the economy's growth (or contraction) rate. My Business Sentiment measure, which is heavily influenced by the earnings warnings, seems to be leading Initial Claims for Unemployment (charted inversely) be 2 to 4 weeks. So, I believe that Reg FD is resulting in the public release of relevant info sooner than would otherwise occur.
