Jules: Much appreciate your views on EDGE. Agree.

As for switching all Vodaphone nets worldwide (the Americas and Asia) to GSM, that seems like the kind of expense for moving backward in technology that makes small economic sense.

But perhaps you are correct and the advantages of communality outweigh all other considerations.

Suggest China will be the most interesting test case to watch re Vodaphone's intentions in the future.

Also suggest that while Vodaphone may swallow Verizon wireless, that in that event Vodaphone will force a switch away from the CDMA upgrade path Verizon is on full speed ahead with right now - and winning customers that way (to VOD's financial benefit) - is an unlikely step.

But let's see.

Best.

You listed several scale/scope arguments but really,....isn't VOD already so big that it is already getting the lowest possible handset and equipment prices from vendors? Which vendors are holding out because they don't think VOD has enough business to justify a lower bid? As for consistent experience for customers, the number of customers roaming between Europe and the U.S. is not large and not worth billions of dollars.

Justifying the valuation - interesting concept. Maybe it can not be justified and should be lower.
