lurqer: Thanks. The Economist link did lay out a plausible possibility for a long stall, less so perhaps for a deep prolonged recession.

Still would be interested in Larry Summers personal views BTW.

Clearly there has been no real inflation for the Fed to fight. Greenspan took on the markets - straight - despite the attempts at pretense and denials.

So, now what?

Your caution is prudent, but I am reminded of the virtues of moderation which might be useful in this kind of uncertainty. Another way to consider this might be hedging our bets.

When I see such nonsense (from an economic policy view) as the trigger mechanism re: taxes propounded by Greenspan himself, it does give pause to assuming much rationality on his part.

Actually, my fear has always been that if anyone could drive us into recession and keep us there, he's that person.

All we can do is see what happens and take whatever practical precautions we can over time.

But I for one have no intention of switching out of Qualcomm for CD's.

Best.
