Rude - I assume you actually READ those press releases: ".. eBay will deploy Windows 2000 Server across all of its front-end Web servers." as you well know Ebay has used win NT servers for years as their web servers - Sun for everything else. This agreement calls for them to upgrade them to Windows 2000 not replace Sun - no news here. "..Central to the alliance is the intersection of key new technology initiatives: eBay's API (application program interface) and Microsoft .NET. " Since ebay's API is based around ebXML (I think) its an open standard and as such shouldnt have a problem with SOAP or .NET. Even Sun ONE which is Sun's Web Services Version should interoperate with .NET. Again - no news. "..Microsoft will use eBay's programmable XML-based Web service to integrate the trading services of eBay's online marketplace into a number of its own Internet properties including the MSN network of Internet services" Well, here is the actual news - Ebay stated back in November that they wanted to extend Ebay auctions on to other web sites so that if you wanted to buy.. oh say a counterfeit version of Windows you wouldnt have to go onto the Ebay site and bid - in essence you could bid from Microsoft's own properties or whatever site was the original destination. So Ebay wanted to sign up the leading web properties to link into their auctions and looks like they signed up Microsoft which is pretty smart for them.
