You're wrong. Whatever happened to:

1) 8-way SMP
2) Mustang
3) 8M L2 caches (AMDroids were drooling over this possibility, not realizing it was just a neato Powerpoint filler)
4) Brand names: Athlon Ultra, Athlon Select, Athlon Professional
5) RISC-like FPU in K8 (as opposed to cloning SSE2)


Dirk didn't talk about any of those things. He talked about single and dual-processor Athlons, and adding an onboard L2. Exactly what AMD has done.

AMD management has not been perfect, but compared to the RDRAM/Merced/Timna/Camino/Willy fiascos, they are looking pretty fine.
