"...something smells... Manifest Destiny "was" a belief that was commonly held at among Americans at one time. Simply stated it was a belief that the religion of the One God was destined to spread from coast to coast on this land. Some took that idea as a licence to kill and plunder. Most of us now see that as an evil course. The religion didn't support that course of action. The people who were greedy corrupted a simple idea to be used in a bad way. It is very likely, given the temperament of the Americans in the 15th to 18th centuries, that the spread of Western religion would have occurred with or without the conquering of the American Indians and the reservation system. The bottom line is it did spread and you can interpret that as evil, someone else can just as easily demonstrate goodness as a result. No one can prove manifest destiny was not ordained by God.
