Promised tax cuts, yes, but for whom? He trotted out the Ramos family, whose "typical" tax cut would be larger than that received by 88% of households. Doesn't "typical" usually mean something a wee bit closely to the median?

The rest of Bush's "compassionate conservatism" has disappeared down the memory hole.

Didn't he promise a few other things?
Medicare prescription coverage?
Patients Bill of Rights (remember "I passed a Patient's Bill of Rights in Texas"? What a whopper. He failed to gather the votes to sustain a second veto)
Campaign finance reform?
Heard about them lately? Not likely.

Instead, we have drilling in the Artic Wildlife Reserve for Enron, and a new harsher consumer bankruptcy bill for MNBA. Big contributers, collect your rewards! And enemies beware: Federal anti-union meddling in the Northeastern mechanic's strike.

I thought conservatives believed the Federal government should keep out of such fights.
