i did a search on "front" in the press release and couldn't find it. Pehaps the Netscape browser can and you can show me where it is in the release.

Meanwhile, at reality central, this WAS taken from the release:

The alliance calls for broad cooperation INITIALLY focusing on three key initiatives expected to roll out this year. First, eBay will support Microsoft(R) .NET technologies, and will be one of the first Web sites worldwide to offer its community-based commerce engine to Web developers as an XML-based Web service. Second, Microsoft will integrate eBay's marketplace into a number of its Web properties, including select MSN(R) Internet service sites worldwide, Carpoint(TM), bCentral(TM) and WebTV(R). Finally, eBay will deploy Microsoft technology including Windows(R) 2000 Server and Microsoft Passport.

and this...

Future Collaboration

The two companies are also collaborating on a variety of other projects around Web services integration and the delivery of next-generation user experiences, including eBay's plans to capitalize on the forthcoming Windows XP operating system.

And that DOESN"T soound like a perscription for prosperity for sunwcom.

Paul, where does it say "front end" and where does it say they are ALREADY using NT? <G>

>>Ebay and Microsoft cooperating on .NET? - This Ebay API is based on XML - the smoke and mirrors .NET is based on XML, SOAP etc..all standards supported by a wide variety of companies including Sun - Ebay's API and .Net is compatible out of the box. Microsoft's challenge which their racking their brains on is how to co-opt these standards for their own benefit - they havent found an answer yet but by the time .Net becomes what Microsoft says it will be who knows.

if so, why isn't SUNCOM selling them the "Standards" based software, ehh Paul? <G>

Here is the Original Press Release From EBAY:

"..To support the deployment and operation of its new XML-based Web service, eBay will deploy Windows 2000 Server across all of its front-end Web servers."

biz.yahoo.com

We've discussed the Ebay Architecture ad nauseaum during some of the outages and the issue of their architecture of using windows NT as front end web servers was brought up. You can use Netcraft and find that they have been using Windows NT servers for as long as they have been a Sun Account. As far as .NET collaboration - Sun could issue a press release today annoucing the intersection of Sun One and .NET - with ebXML, SOAP, etc..there is nothing mutually exclusive about them and by the time any of them become real they will have the cure for cancer as well..its clear that Ebay was angling for exposure onto Microsofts dominant web properties (see i can say something nice about MS) and thats what they got with no outlay whatsoever to MS.
