Once we get to the end of the list, then they can all start warning a second or third time. And, of course, all the companies that make things with chips in them, or make software that runs on chips, they can get in line, too.

We are beginning to see chip companies firing workers, and fabs going on reduced work weeks. In an industry with huge fixed costs, this is only done when market conditions get really bad. The next step is for several new fabs to be shut down, as I remember happening in 1998.
