Razorbak RE: <<Third, I have to keep reminding myself that the US economy as a whole is mostly a service economy (80%), and not just a manufacturing economy (20%). Don't forget that entire sectors can go into recession without dragging down the entire economy...>>

Just got back from knock'n over a grocery store to pay the margin calls and I'm here to tell ya that the retail economy ain't doing all that great. There wasn't much cash in the till and the night manager kept after me to wing him in the leg so he could get some of that worker's comp and wouldn't have to deal with the layoffs. It was so dark in there that I had to steal a flashlight just to find my way to the register and the milk I stole was sour cause the fridge was too warm. I had to go back and trade it for a good one. I'm think'n about moving up to liquor stores but that's a big step here in the GREAT STATE OF CALIFORNIA cause we will fight to the death here before we give up our liquor.

I thought maybe this "man on the street" testimonial would help set this matter straight. I also thought maybe I could cheer up any lurkers who might need to see how far we techies have sunk. ggg Ed

PS Don't forget about the world economy and all the resonance effects from the US economy to the world economy and back. Especially in tech and manufactured goods where we buy a good share of the finished products and sell them the technology and equipment to make them for us. When we don't buy, they don't buy, then we don't buy etc., etc.
