Re: "They (unions) have a vested interest in lowering productivity. Lower productivity requires more employees and more union members and more union dues to get the same amount of output."

That was an idiotic post. If such were true, then why did Ford, for instance, broadcast TV ads a couple years back lauding its union workforce?

Rather than continue to post such tripe, why don't you enlighten us all with your personal experience with unions ... or are you an expert like Zoltan ... because he did a college paper once on unions vis-a-vis the Big Three automakers?

We don't have any turnover at all. I start with apprentices so I don't have to deal with the entrenched philosophies of blowhards. I pay them above scale and put them through the 5 year apprenticeship. It's has worked very well for us. Seems I need to have 4-5 pre-apprentices before I can get one that will be good enough to continue but the ones that stick have all been very good. My current apprentice was a shop foreman in a non union shop. Most of us would look at that as quite a step down. Mark is thrilled to work for someone who appreciates what he is doing and he took a pay cut to do it. I quickly got him back up to what he was making after a 30 day trial, but you kind of get the idea.
