Scumbria,,, Re..It would be better for Congress to provide a temporary tax cut covering the next two to three years, Rubin said, with an option of passing a second cut later if projected budget surpluses materialize.<<<<

Even Rubin and .volker agree we need a tax cut. Rubin and Volker want theirs to be quicker, but not as permanent. So. It is still a tax cut, which they feel is needed to stimulate the economy.

A consumer health advocacy group, Families USA, said extra money from Medicare could be diverted for Bush's tax cuts, speeding up the bankruptcy of the health insurance program by 15 years. <<<<<

Well I see the dem. haven't given up on their scare the seniors program which has worked so well for them in the past. Isn't it amazing with all of the corruption and pork in gov. these guys can only cut medicare. If that is all they can see, get rid of them. Even though Gw has submitted a budget which increased medicare, and submitted proposals to shore up medicare indefinitely, these guys feel it isn't enough. When will the dems ever learn it isn't how much you spend as much as how well you spend it. Tell FAMILIES USA that once corruption is gotten out of gov. we will all be better off.

It would be better for Congress to provide a temporary tax cut covering the next two to three years, Rubin said, with an option of passing a second cut later if projected budget surpluses materialize.

If people know the tax cut is temporary it will provide less of a stimulus. If budget surpluses don't materialize it will be because the economy is going south, which is not a good time for a tax increase.

Scumbria and thread,

There are two economic arguments running concurrently; one that says inflation is our #1 issue and another that says its deflation. The link below is on article by an inflation proponent. In two subsequent posts, I will post the argument for deflation.
