I totally agree with you: AG made numerous mistakes:
- did not assist in restricting margin requirements during 98 - 00 market bubble
.( That might have saved a lot of folks ).
- overreacted to the amount of liquidity needed for y2k
and thus contributed to bubble and tech overstocking of supply channel.
-did not lower rates during Nov. 2000 allegedly to be non-political
not realizing that the economy is politics-free and needs
to be helped or curtailed regardless of what is going on politically.
The Fed should be non- political.

-he did not emphasize 1992 - 2000 enough the need for
tax cuts and more fiscal/spending restraint as the best way
to put money in the pocket of the consumer ( money that
he gained lawfully ) so as to help the economy. That would have
cut the amount of consumer borrowing which is hot air.

-should not have bailed out many profligate countries,
LTCM and S & L and let these people fall on
their own sword. That is one of the elements of capitalism:
you are rewarded for risk taking but you need to be
prepared to pay if you are not prudent.

Just some thoughts,

TA

t2, PS: I do have some optimistic thoughts about the future,
but will not post them now so I will not be accused of hyping JDSU.
Instead I will wait until the rest of the thread catches up
with my " irrational exuberance " and post them then.

BTW, here's another post on AG mistakes,
