Much too much emphasis is placed on early education. For example, even in successful Head Start programs (and only about 10% show much gain), after several years, the measurable effect is gone. Mainstream classes dilute it, until it disappears.

The most important point is actually later, once the child has developed the capacity for real conceptual thinking, in the later teen years. Before that, it is mostly a matter of memorization and elementary problem solving. When they are about 16, they are much more capable of analysis, synthesis, interpretation, and the like, and nuanced guidance becomes important........
