Great concept. If your wife is spending too much, you take a lower paying job to reign in her bad habits.

Only a moron would think we can keep raising spending at a higher than inflation rate.

Only a moron wouldn't recognize that the population is growing, as well as wages and prices. This requires a growth of the tax base greater than inflation.
