That's the way mass psychology treats popular fads. That is why we aren't wearing bell bottoms and long hair and getting stoned all day; it was a whimsical fantasy that just seemed so real man while it was happenin'. Bezos was man of the year not that long ago. Now he is more the butt of jokes and business ridicule. Just people grew out of the fads of the 70's they woke up to the reality of the "new economy".

yes, Bezos did say about the same thing over a year ago (I remember it being around October of 2000) while the stock was still white hot. The hysteria of the market was too strong for many to pay attention at the time.

Bezos is a nice guy and he has a lot of good intentions. However, he has been terribly wrong about the nature of the Internet in regards to competition and costs of doing business. Maybe he is coming to understand that. Sorry that it's too late to save the stock . . and maybe the company altogether.
