Neocon, good article - although I'm sure its very out-of-date on Italy, at least: I thought the CD had almost vanished after massive corruption and influence-peddling scandals.
In Germany, I can't remember the CDU as ever having particularly heavy religious influences in my lifetime - I was referring to its historical role (and current title).

Anyway, good conversation... don't fill too many pages while I'm gone ;-)
