It is certain that conditions of Native Americans was worsened by the interaction with and exploitation by the Europeans. So you didn't agree with the abstract I copied in my post?

The debris density is probably the best indication of the former population. If you were to estimate the population of Santa Clara prior to a die-off of 80% of the population, you could surmise it from the number of dwellings, vehicles and other infrastructure remnants.

I thought the disease was spread almost from the beginning, from tribe to tribe. We had nothing much to do with it......

European settlers introduced new diseases. That would be at least part of it.
