Perhaps, but the alternative to providing kids a Head Start program is not a caring parent willing and able to train them. The alternative is poor training or no training at all. Until we find a way for all kids to be prepared for school by loving, competent parents, we need to support something along the lines of Head Start. It's the best alternative available.

Karen, If Head Start can be shown to really work I would become a supporter of it, but what evidence we have so far seems to show that it makes no long term difference. It is true that a small long term benefit could have been missed by the studies that have been done so far, and I am not arguing for its elimination, I just think it is overrated.
