DJ A.G. Edwards Analyst: Pick Retail Stocks Carefully

13 Mar 14:33

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--With retail sales down 0.2% in February, there's no
question business is weak right now, according to Robert Buchanan, retail
analyst at A.G. Edwards.

"Looking ahead six to 12 months, the Fed's actions will induce consumer
spending," Buchanan said in a CNBC interview.

In the meantime, retail earnings generally are under a lot of pressure.

He said high-cost providers like Kmart Corp. (KM) are really having a tough
time during the "ebb tide" in consumer spending. Buchanan said some discount
competitors like Kohl's Corp. (KSS), Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT), and Costco
Wholesale Corp. (COST) "are having a little bit better time right now. So it's
really important to be selective if you going to own something in this group."
