In this difficult environment with the concerns about carrier spending, we note that Qwest Communications recently completed a $3.25 billion debt sale of senior notes in a Rule 144A offering. The notes were issued in two series by Qwest Capital Funding and Guaranteed by Qwest Communications International Inc. The notes were issued to refinance commercial paper.

More Fiber Into Asia

Deployment of fiber remains strong in the Asian market, as was recently demonstrated by Tycom’s $1.25 billion agreement with DishnetDSL. Under the terms of the agreement, Tycom will construct a major new undersea system linking India to the United States via Singapore, Jakarta, and Guam over a 19,000-km network.
