I think you are correct. I'm one of those folks with big gains last year, though looking at my portfolio now, you wouldn't know it. The big gains come from QCOM and JDSU I sold in April. Unfortunately, I was trying to diversify so moved the money into other stocks. Fortunately, I kept cash on the side to cover the taxes or I'd be screwed. I suspect there are many folks with large gains who have no cash and will be forced to sell soon to cover the taxes.
