Actually I think lots of people give credit to Bob for his conservative thinking. That's pretty much the heart of the matter.

For those who listened to his preachings, last year's advice didn't really fit. B2B, Q's, 60/40.

It would have fit Bob better to have no B2B, no Qs and 100% cash. That would have fit well into his preachings and, in hindsight, would have done very well for all involved.

I really think that divergence is what has gotten so many into so much trouble (including Bob) with the Qs. Bob is so careful and conservative that he would never gamble such a large % of portfolios on something incredibly risky --- that's what I think many were saying to themselves when they got that bulletin.

tim,
yes, and here's my point, i've made and lost money from following BB. he has never made me follow any of his trade recommendations. the responsibility is always mine. people like to scapegoat and i don't like scapegoating. its like that song from jbuffet "margararitaville",... "its my own dman fault."

tb, bob has had some great calls. bob has had a few bad calls. i'd say many more good ones than bad ones. he gives decent advice.

my issues are:

1. he gloats on all the good calls to the point of absurd. maybe the guy has an inferiority complex, but he ought to resolve it in private.
2. he down plays any bad calls. maybe this is marketing in his mind. in my mind it is snake oil manipulation. pout the truth out and let the people decide.
3. we've been in a massive bubble and bob correctly called part of it. but, alas, he has missed a huge part of it, too.
4. the jury is still out whether bob is good or he benefited from the "bull market genius" concept - just like so many others (bob under performed tens of thousands of folks b/c stupidity was rewarded handsomely... until it wasn't). i can't say one way or the other.
