Some Briefing.com stuff:

Updated: 14-Mar-01

06:12 ET: [BRIEFING.COM] S&P futures trading at 1191, 19.0 points below fair value, Nasdaq 100 futures trading at 1741.50, 72.5 points below fair value. The 30-year bond is up 5 ticks at 5.310%. Treasury strength a function of weakness in European and US equities. Front of the curve outperforming on the back of more aggressive easing expectations.

06:11 ET: FTSE -1.65%, DAX -2.52%: [BRIEFING.COM] Carnage in Europe with a number of major bourses now off more than 2%. Cyclical starts taking a hit following outperformance earlier this year. Concerns about slowdown spreading to Europe in the face of a hawkish ECB. DaimlerChrysler off more than 2%, dragging most of the rest of the auto sector lower. Market internals pretty nasty with decliners outnumbering advancers by more than a 2 to 1 margin. More downward revisions for German growth noted. Earnings woes weigh on the likes of Colt Telecom and ARM Holdings, while Cable & Wireless under pressure following reports of job cuts and sluggish sales growth. Anglo American, the biggest mining company, off more than 3% on demand concerns surrounding the global economic slowdown.

06:10 ET Nikkei +0.20%, Hang Seng -1.20%: [BRIEFING.COM] Mixed performance out of Asia last night. Hong Kong stocks down 1.2% on skepticism surrounding yesterday's bounce in the US. New World Development Co. hit hard on expectations of weaker profits going forward. Japan up a tad, snapping a four day losing streak with some better buying (largely short covering) in selected technology. Bank shares pummeled however amid concerns of another blow-up. Fitch decision to place 19 Japanese banks on Rating Watch Negative also weighs. South Korea up almost 3% on Nasdaq rally. Foreign investors jump back to the buy side. Taiwan still faring well, up another 0.8% on the back of recent gains in the face of US weakness.
