Hi Charles - I suggest that current challenges are not "anomalous" in the sense that over a very long term period of time a series of boom years will be punctuated by a series of bust years. Further I suggest that the net effect is a midline, long-term, sustaintable plannable bet-your-retirement-on-it-able 15% return.

If you feel lucky, go for more. But secure the 15%.

Because you don't need to go for more. $100K invested at 15% return is a million bucks ten years down the line. If every 40 year old just put off that SUV by a year and invested 10K at 15% they can retire with more than a million bucks after tax at 65.

Also note that I provided you could maintain a healthy exposure to a potentially high growth company to steal more upside.

Greed kills. There were a lot of folks with shares in DEC that thought it could maintain its "long term" growth rate at the time. The territory is volatile.

The best laid plans and all that.

John.
