too much credit to greenspan...the october surprises in 1997 and 1998 were not eased into by the fed...more a knee jerk reaction....

lot of down issues trading on upticks...this is good

Ah good question..I believe it is an ego thing..AG always has waited until the headline event uncovered what he already knew...this enhances his power, reputation and legend...if AG acted on facts unknown to the public, he would not get the bang for his buck he gets otherwise. No doubt AG know about LTCM for at least 6 weeks before he acted, but he waited for the headline...he did the same thing when CitiBank had problems in the late 80's as well....he knew, yet he waited for the media to splash it around first.
