Come and revel in music, dance, and spirit this Earth Day featuring special guest, former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, plus many other spectacular performers. The celebration, will begin at 3:00 with an Environmental Fair in the Cathedral Plaza and at 4:30 the live musical and dance performances will take place in the Cathedral (Grace Cathedral, 1100 California St. at Taylor, 415-749-6300). The music will be an eclectic blend of the world's musical traditions. Tibetan temple bells will blend with the Cathedral Organ. Vocal performances will range from Native American and Muslim Chants to Spirituals and Choral canticles. Representatives from a diverse range of religious paths will participate in the festivities, including Native American, Islamic, Hindu, Jewish, Pagan, and Christian. Experience The beam, an electronic monochord, taken out of retirement by Mickey Hart; didjeridu, Uilleann pipes and droning instruments from other cultures; the voices of popular vocalists Rhiannon, and SoVoSo's David Worm and Joey Blake; and the raised tones of the audience in a unique improvisational piece, commissioned solely for Earth Day at Grace Cathedral. This original piece will provide an incredible soundscape for a performance by renowned Butoh dance company, Harupin-Ha.
