<UPDATE> Earnings plays CANI, HOTT, KSS, SCHL, AEOS, VRTY, WSM all in strength.. Even SKS is moving we hardly even had any this week.. this is a huge hunk. Earnings Plays rule in down markets. Actually from the 6 earnings plays.. every one is 'according to expectations' that's 6 out of 6. The sixth one was CMVT which was a great case of "Anticipatory Downswing" Only one we might still watch is ADBE, from the Wednesday list, this one we did mention might swing either way. CTAS is trying, but the market is working against it. While everyone was scrambling into CMVT last night, I picked up some SCHL and sold at a profit today. I'll probably buy back one or two earnings plays.

Dave -- My point was really just to ask why this news would have such an impact on the markets at this point, when we all already know the situation. I like the way Bob Pisani is covering the story on CNBC, because he can't figure out why this would have such a major effect, either. There are other factors at work, although it isn't entirely clear what they are.

This sure has been another crazy day -- and it's not even half-finished!
