Dear barry the logical extension of you desire to combine expression of free speech with other crimes can lead directly to the assertion of the expression is the crime and thus I guess maybe Senatory Byrd should get 10 years for letting the N-word slip out. dumb, stupid, dumber, retarded.

If you feel the penalty for a crime is not correct then you should use you free speech to do what you feel is correct.

Whatever the consequence of an action to me the penalty should be based on the simple concept of intent. If a person meant to do, I don't really care why. Why can be used to show intent but matters not in applying a sanction.

So << Can you provide some examples of crimes and what you think is appropriate. >>

This means you state the crime and the penalty and then say what is wrong with the actual penalty.

In my post I used a crime and the actual sanction. Why is this so impossible for a vacant liberal mind????????????

Dear Barry,
<<I would favor increased penalties for crimes of rape, conservatism, assault, murder, attempted murder, vandalism etc., when they are the obvious results of acts of hate. I'm sure there are others also.>>

Despite the valiant efforts of Bill, Hill and Ted,
conversatism is only against the law in Massachusetts.

<<Since you have obviously given this much conservative thought, how do you feel that the law will be drafted? Do you think that the anti-hate laws will specifically exclude certain races, religions or cultures? >>

If you liked Orwell's 1984 and the culture espoused, you will love hate-crime legislation. Here's my solution:
Take each and every crime and tack on an appropriate "extra" penalty for the specific "hate" offense. This "new" penalty becomes the standard for that crime. That way everyone serves the extra sentence and we are sure to catch all true "hate" crime offenders. Maybe we punish the just plain stupid at the same time, but they probably deserve it as well.
