Nextel opened up the doors to competition for telecom equipment the other day by purchasing switching equipment from Lucent. I think that NXTL is looking at the economies of scale for 1x which will be supported by every telcom company in Asia and the US. I think this gives NOK & ERICY a greater incentive to look at the US market for 1x which they have mocked with irreverant disregard so far. Once you push NXTL's subscriber base of 10 million into the 1x CDMA column, the visibility for QCOM's market opportunities continues to explode.
