Interesting bit of information which I caught on the tube last night:

The world's largest Gold deposit isn't Fort Knox as most would think, instead it is in downtown New York city on Liberty Street. The U.S. Federal Reserve there holds approximately $70 billion dollars worth of gold bars. It is the depository for countries all over the world, both big and small.

Since March 2000, after Greenspan's now infamous speech, Americans have lost over $4.1 Trillion dollars in savings due to the markets' collapse. That amounts to approximately 59 times the value of the gold held in the Reserve.

Irrational exhuberance anyone?
