John,
Don't forget that Veritas' earnings are affected by their amortization of goodwill from their initial buying of most of Seagate Software a couple of years ago. Since they bought back Seagate's stake late last year, I don't think that that goodwill will show up on their balance sheet going forward (if someone knows otherwise, please correct me). They should begin to show real earnings now.

Of course, that doesn't mean that they are worth their current $23 billion or so market capitalization.
Sam

Are you averaging the PE? If you do that you skew thre results, I take the cap and sum it (around 1 trillion) and then take the total earnings and sum it (around $33 or so Billions) and get a PE of 30.

In the meanwhile I took off NEWP above $36.25 and JDSU at $25.125. Both for gains, getting ready to get back into JNPR here.

In edit, back in JNPR at $57-3/8, not a bad discount. Also back in NEWP at $35.5
