The fact is, whether you like it or not, there is certainty in life.

You and your sorry buddy are throwing darts at a strawman

And you seemed so substantial...

Solon does this everytime anyone questions his sagehood. This is new from you how ever.

WHOA! I am Solon. Relax, Brees! Grab yourself a cup of tea or something!

It does come with surrender (of your arrogant egos)

What a high price you paid for your CERTAINTY! Remember what Ratty said...

Perhaps your interpretation of defensiveness is because as a scientist with two areas of specialty, I see ignorance constantly trying for parity.

I don't think this is good or desirable. Ignorance has done more to harm humans than to benefit them. I won't say that there is no benefit from blissful ignorance. To the contrary, studies have shown that smart people are on average less satisfied than people who aren't so smart.

Perhaps seeing the truth is a bit painful. However, I'm willing to suffer a bit to see the truth. I recommend it because, like exercise, after the pain, there is elation and satisfaction provided by the quest and the treasures thereof.

SO, brees, would you rather your neurosurgeon used ignorance in operating on your brain tumor, or knowledge? Would you prefer he was uncertain, thus careful, or certain and less careful? I think this puts my point in perspective.

It is the wonder that produces the certainty, that there is meaning behind the veil of phenomena, that creation itself is a miracle. Far from surrendering to ignorance, one is affirming that there are mysteries, that the dullards answer of matter in motion is too pat. And if it is addleheaded to embrace a cosmos rich in meaning, well, it is the sort of foolishness that we could use more of, to counter the weary cynicism of our time.........
